SALC December Bulletin

In our December SALC bulletin, we would like to give you an update on our research activities and also let you know about some of the events and activities coming up in the coming weeks.

RILAE (Research Institute for Learner Autonomy Education) summary of activities:

  1. We have welcomed the following guests to KUIS to do invited talks this year:

  1. We held a free online event “LAb Session” related to evaluating learner autonomy on Thursday 16th November. Invited international speakers presented in addition to KUIS colleagues.

  1. We started a peer reviewed journal Relay Journal. The (temporary) website is here https://relayjournal.org/ (there is an open call for papers with a January 10th deadline)

  2. We started a RILAE Facebook group to continue discussions about learner autonomy research https://www.facebook.com/rilaekuis/ (please join!)

  3. We established eight research clusters and are involved in several interesting projects http://www.rilae.org/research.html

  4. We have started offering Learning Advisor Education courses. 10 teachers from Turkey came to KUIS for one week in November to participate in 5 days of workshops to successfully complete Course 1. Courses 2, 3 and 4 will be held online. Details of our courses can be found on our (temporary) website http://www.rilae.org/education.html

SALC events and learning communities

  • Tuesday lunchtime study buddies

  • Wednesday lunchtime discussion group

  • TED talks

  • Workshops related to culture / study abroad

  • Christmas-themed tea party on 22nd December (4-5pm)

Japan Association for Self-Access Learning (JASAL conference)

The SALC is proud to be hosting the upcoming annual JASAL conference on Saturday December 16th. The programme and registration details are available online. https://jasalorg.com/

All of the events will be held in KUIS 8, but you need to be registered to participate.
